一、安装柴油发电机组的外部附件
① 安装出水管（水管衬垫应与水管口同样大，衬垫应涂黄油）。
② 安装进、排气管垫片和进、排气歧管，空气滤清器。
③ 安装水泵总成、皮带盘及风扇、充电发电机，并套上风扇皮带，调整好皮带的紧度（用3—5kgf的力，压下风扇与充电机之间的皮带，当压下10~20mm时即为合适）。
④ 安装水箱，水温调节器及上、下水管，拧紧水管夹箍。
⑤ 装好机油散热器及其油管、水管。
⑥ 安装好启动机。
⑦ 装上机油滤清器垫及座，在滤清器内注满机油后，拧紧滤清器盖螺钉。
⑧ 校正供油时间，安装好调速器总成。
⑨ 装好各缸高压油管、回油管。
⑩ 装上柴油输油泵，并装好油路各连接处的输油管及接头。
二、内燃机的工作
内燃机工作时，由于燃料的燃烧和运动机件间的摩擦，都将产生大量的热量，促使机件受到强烈的热，温度升得很高。冷却系统的任务就是强制地将零件所吸收的热量及时地散发出去，以保证它们的温度在适当的范围内，从而保证发动机的正常运转。
冷却水温度过高，将会造成气缸和进气道温度过高，使进入的混合气因受热而膨胀，减少充气量，使发动机功率下降，油耗增加，还会引起“自燃"或“突爆"。
